ETTG: Piedmontese farmer reaping the rewards of growing market for leaner cuts of beef

Regardless of the advice he was given, Tipperary farmer, John Commins, was determined to keep farming beef. So much so that he travelled to Italy to find a more profitable breed.

There, he discovered Piedmontese cattle, an intriguing breed with a double-muscled physique. Helen Carroll meets John on his farm to find out about the challenges of acclimatizing his herd to the Irish weather, and the benefits from a growing market in Ireland for a leaner cut of beef.

John recently features on Ear to the Ground. Can be view on the RTE player link below (starting point 16 minutes)
